“I had an experience that cannot be put into words. These three weeks have been the most amazing journey of my life and have exposed me to many new opportunities.” These are the words of Matric student and swimmer, Lisa Wimmer, after a trip to Budapest to take part in the 17th International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Championships. The teams from across the world were welcomed with a magical and heartwarming opening ceremony, which included numerous spectacular events, singers as well as a speech from the president who welcomed the 186 nations that had gathered in the heart of the beautiful country.
As a team of 10 swimmers from South Africa, they trained for many hours every day, in the most breathtaking arena set on a small lake with a view of a stunning castle, alongside many other historical buildings. Lisa reported that their team’s competition swim went extremely well. She adds that she is so grateful for the opportunity to have taken part in such an event and cannot wait to apply everything she has learnt to her method of training.
